Summer Programs: Spanish and French
2 activities per week are organized by the local coordinator. Host families need only to provide local transportation. Buses and the Metra are used for activities planned further from home. Host families are invited but not required to attend. Past all-day excursions have included: Navy Pier, White Sox/Cub Games, Great America, Taste of Chicago, North Beach, Chicago shopping and exploring days. Closer to home, local activities have been bowling, outlet mall shopping, canoeing, City Hall visits, local swimming, etc.
Fall Academic programs: Spanish
This program allows Spanish students the opportunity to experience high school in America. Students attend school 2-3 days per week and have activities and excursions planned the rest of the weekdays. At school, the Spanish students “shadow” the American students and attend classes with them. Local coordinators organize and accompany the students non -school days to places like Navy Pier, Willis Tower, shopping, bowling, etc. Weekend days are spent with the host family, participating in typical family life.
Students attend Grayslake North High School and Grayslake Central High School. Students typically arrive the first week of September and stay for 3 weeks. If you would like to see your high school participate in a program like this, please contact us.
Full Immersion program (no planned activities)
This hosting experience is different from our other programs in that the student will spend his/her entire time with the host family, with no other contact with native speakers.
These students are serious about improving their English. Students are eager to experience the typical American way of life, and will engage in all of your family
activities, whether it is a weekend trip, a vacation, or just watching a movie together. Families in this type of program are paid to help with any activities,
meals out, etc.
